Strange Tales and Modern Legends collects three stories based on Japanese folklore. These eerie works of fiction are illuminated with illustrations and short culture notes.

An aspiring content creator meets a terrible fate in a mountain forest. A scholar’s assistant uncovers an uncanny manuscript whose shadows stretch into the modern age. A neglected cat vows revenge on the small child that has monopolized his beloved human’s attention.

Although the stories fall firmly into the genre of horror, their emphasis is on atmosphere and character. I write for a mature audience, but nothing bad will happen if a younger reader encounters this zine. A PG-13 rating would be appropriate.
